A JUDGE has ordered a second psychiatric report on a 31-year-old man who assaulted two women on the same day.

Aaron Stirland could be detained in a secure hospital if the second doctor agrees with the recommendation of the first one.

Stirland pleaded guilty to assault by beating and wounding with intent when he appeared at Teesside Crown Court via a live video-link from Durham Prison yesterday.

His lawyer, John Nixon, told the court: “I believe the psychiatrist will have to decide whether the most appropriate place for him is in a hospital or in prison.”

Judge Howard Crowson said: “I had the impression the prison were already considering a transfer.”

And he added: “I should simply remand him in custody, ask for a report and hope the two doctors have similar views.”

Judge Crowson, who adjourned the case for six weeks, told Stirland: “We have noted that you have admitted you have done wrong, and we have seen Dr Green’s report.

“But I want another doctor to see you.

“We will wait for reports and we should be able to finish your case by November 15.”

Stirland, of Park Road North, Middlesbrough, admitted in court that he carried out both of the attacks on July 16.
