FAMILIES can find out more about the work of real-life superheroes at a free fun day next month.

The PCVC Celebration of Local Superheroes promises to showcase and raise awareness of good work happening in local communities and to thank those who go above and beyond to help others.

Hosted by Ron Hogg, the Durham Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner, the family event will be held at Locomotion, in Shildon, from 10am until 3pm on Saturday, October 27.

He said: “It’s great we can give families the opportunity to come along and enjoy themselves, whilst also learning about community safety. A lot of work organisations do is hidden so this is a great way for us to show the hidden things they do.”

The event is autism-friendly until midday.

Emergency services including the police, Police Interceptors, fire and rescue service, Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue will be in attendance as well as community and voluntary organisations.

There will be interactive activities, demonstrations and a fancy dress competition encouraging children to come as a favourite character, local superhero, or in halloween outfits. For details visit durham-pcc.gov.uk
