AS tourism in Bishop Auckland grows, so does demand for traditional postcards.

So WH Smith has teamed up with community photographer Christine Percival to launch a range of cards featuring four of her local images.

As a volunteer Town Ambassador Ms Percival visited the shop recently and when supervisor Penny Priestley said customers have asked for postcards to send or keep they came up with the idea.

The cards– showing Bishop Auckland Town Hall and St Anne's Church, the viaduct which gives Kynren charity Eleven Arches its name, the poppy cascade at Bishop Auckland Town Hall and a contrast between the old and new featuring the town hall and Welcome Tower– are on sale now and half of the proceeds will cover costs and the rest will go to charities supported by WHSmith including Cancer Research UK, Mind and the National Literacy Trust. The town's Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and Forces Support will also receive 100 cards each to sell.

Ms Percival said: "I'm really proud this national company want to sell my photos, especially as it promotes Bishop and supports charity."
