A TOUR of illustrated talks to give members of the public further insight into the sketches of a pitman painter continues in County Durham next month.

Bishop Auckland Town Hall will play host to the event entitled Behind the Scenes: The Norman Cornish Sketchbooks on Wednesday, October 3. The talk is one of a number delivered by Norman Cornish’s son-in-law, Mike Thornton, across the north since the family’s namesake book publication last year.

Mr Thornton said: “It seemed to be an obvious location, in Bishop Auckland.

“It’s all part of South Durham and I have tailored the talk to include Bishop Auckland specific images.” He has previously presented events at the Mining Institute, in Newcastle, the Shipley Art Gallery and at art groups.

Sketches uncovered by the Cornish family reveal the initial work developed to create his iconic images.

The event next month starts at 7.30pm and is free.
