ALCOHOL has been seized from a youths causing nuisance and disorder in a County Durham village.

The bottles of spirits, alcopops and cans of beer were taken from a group of young people in Sacriston.

Police say they had been causing nuisance and disorder and had been hassling members of the community to buy alcohol for them from local stores.

Chester-le-Street neighbourhood policing team requested parents make sure they know where their children are.

A spokesperson said: "Police had to take a number of children home due to being drunk. It is clear that some of these children do not know the issues they are causing and also the potential danger that they put themselves in."

Police say they have identified a man, who was also in possession of cannabis, as having supplied alcohol and cigarettes to some of the youths.

The neighbourhood team added: "This male was also in possession of cannabis and will be attending court for the offences.

"We don’t believe this male intended on supplying any of the youths cannabis but this does reinforce that, as parents, you need to make sure you know where your child is tonight. If this means you ring them to make sure they are safe then please do so."
