History course

A FAMILY history course for beginners will be taking place in The Globe community library in Stokesley on Saturday, September 29 between 10am and 3pm. The course is being run by the County Record Office for North Yorkshire and the cost is £12. Tickets can be brought in advance from the library on North Road.

Murder events

TWO crime-themed events have been arranged at Ripon Workhouse Museum. ‘Murder in the Workhouse’ on September 29 is a 1920s style Murder Mystery Evening with three course meal and 1920s props. In the Courthouse on October 4, an event will will present an audience jury with details of four crimes, with visitors given the opportunity to decide who is guilty. It promises to be a fascinating insight into how the law works in the unique setting of a Georgian Courthouse. Tickets for both events are available from www.riponmuseums.co.uk/events.

Expert talk

A TALK by David Tucker organised by the Thirsk and District Museum Society takes place at St Oswald’s Church, Sowerby, on Thursday, September 27. Mr Tucker’s talk is titled ‘Too Good to Pull Down - Too Much Altered to Restore’ and starts at 7.30 pm. Tickets are £2.50 on the door.

Charity coffee

A COFFEE Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support is being held at Gillings Court Common Room in Thirsk on Friday, September 28. There will be a cake stall and raffle and all proceeds go to the charity. The event starts at 10.30am.

Author visit

LOCAL author Jonathan Tulloch will talk about his new book ‘Gimpses of Eden’ at the White Rose Bookcafe in Thirsk on Wednesday, September 26. The event is free and there will be complimentary refreshments. It runs from 7pm to 8.30pm.

Village market

AMPLEFORTH Village Market takes place this Saturday in the White Swan car park from 9am to noon.
