CRIME prevention and community safety advice roadshows are taking place in the coming weeks. The events will be a chance for people to meet police officers, firefighters and people from other organisations which work to make the area safer. Billed as a chance to "meet your local superheroes", they take place between 3pm and 7pm. The first will be at Brandon Primary School on Wednesday, with others at Langley Park Primary School on October 2, at Esh Winning Primary School on October 10 and at St Joseph's RC Primary School in Ushaw Moor on October 17.

Table top sale

A TABLE top sale is being held at St Andrew’s Methodist Church, in Langley Park, on Saturday, September 29. Sellers should arrive for 9am and buyers from 10am. Entry is £1 for adults and is free for children.

Country walk

VOLUNTARY walk leader Neville McDonnell heads a nine-mile ramble in north Durham countryside next Saturday.

The walk, expected to last five-and-a-half hours, starts from Eden Place picnic area, near the entrance to Beamish Museum, off the A695, DH9 0RG, at 10am.

Walkers, who will be charged £4 each, are advised to take sturdy footwear and a packed lunch.

History club

A meeting of the Wheatley Hill History Club takes place on Wednesday, September 26. The club meets at Wheatley House at 11am. Allan Heesom will give a talk on Buddle and Londonderry. Entry is £2, including refreshments and raffle tickets. All are welcome.

New curate

THE Reverend Lucy Moss, now a curate in the Spennymoor and Whitworth Ministry, is to take over as Interim Minister in the Easington Deanery. The appointment, announced by the Bishop of Durham’s office, takes effect at the end of October.
