ONE of the North-East’s most stunning and historic attractions is appealing for volunteers to help drive forward its return to glory.

Ushaw, set in a 500-acre estate near Durham City, was built as a Catholic seminary and trained priests for over two centuries from 1808 to 2011.

Trustees, together with an enthusiastic team of volunteers, are now working to turn Ushaw into a unique cultural attraction, events venue, business hub and conference centre.

Last year, 38,000 visitors flocked to Ushaw and more volunteers are needed to help with major plans to widen Ushaw’s appeal as one of the most beautiful and inspirational places in England.

Director of Development, Roger Kelly, said: “Volunteering at Ushaw provides the opportunity to work as part of a passionate and committed team, to meet a wide range of people from around the world, and privileged access to a diverse heritage and cultural programme.

“Volunteer opportunities are open to all and Ushaw welcomes enquiries from anyone interested in joining our team, irrespective of the time they can commit each month.”

Ushaw offers a broad range of high quality volunteer roles and is looking for stewards, tour guides, shop assistants, gardeners, administration support, and sacristans. Volunteers are fully supported and receive an induction and training.
