ONE of the largest one-day agricultural shows in the county will be taking place this weekend.

Stokesley Show will be taking place in the North Yorkshire town's showground on Saturday, September 22.

This year, the chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, Sir Gary Verity, will be the show’s president.

He will be touring the showground throughout the day and will present the winners’ trophies in the Grand Parade at 3pm.

The tourism boss, who lives on a working sheep farm, will also be exhibiting his own sheep in the show’s classes.

In honour of Sir Gary Verity’s Tour de Yorkshire, stunt bicycle team, the 2Sixty Bicycle Stunt Show, have been invited to perform at the show.

The riders have performed at a range of the events, including live TV shows and music videos and have broken 11 official Guinness World Records between them.

Other entertainment in the main ring will include a recreation of the famous gold bullion van chase scenes from the iconic film, the Italian Job.

The act, brought to the show by Paul Swift, of the Britalian Job, will involve a trio of Union Jack Mini Coopers in red, white and blue, in a tightly choreographed routine involving music and pyrotechnic special effects.

Also in the main ring will be a demonstration by FarlaVale Gundogs, a family-run business which teaches a flexible and creative approach to gundog training.

Show secretary, Janette Hugill said this year Stokesley Show will have a new country pursuits area to the showfield, which will feature demonstrations by Ayton Angling Club and Ryan Kay, who will be carrying out his gun dog demonstration.

There will also be birds of prey and alpacas to help people learn more about the animals.

Approximately 2,500 animals are expected to arrive at Stokesley Showground this year, which has seen more than 5,000 entries into classes for livestock, horticulture, crafts, poultry, horses, vintage machinery and many other exhibits.

The show traditionally attracts in the region of 20,000 visitors.

Admission is £12 adults, £8 for children aged five to 16 and free for children under school age. Family tickets are available for £30. Admission is free to members of Stokesley Agricultural Society.
