A CONVICTED teenage rapist has admitted further sexual offences, involving a 13-year-old girl.

The defendant was made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), when, as a 14-year-old, he was convicted of the rape of a younger girl, at Teesside Youth Court, in June, 2016.

One of the terms of the order was a prohibition on him having unsupervised contact with any female aged under 16.

But, appearing at Durham Crown Court, via video link from Wetherby Young Offenders’ Institution, the, now 16-year-old defendant was facing another rape charge, said to have taken place on August 16, which he denied.

He did plead guilty, however, to an alternative count of engaging in sexual activity with a child, aged 13, in mid-August.

The defendant also admitted two charges of breaching the 2016 SHPO, by having unsupervised contact with a female under 16, on two separate dates, also in August.

Aisha Wadoodi, prosecuting, said, having discussed the case with the reviewing lawyer, those pleas were considered acceptable to the Crown, negating the need for a trial on the rape charge.

Judge Tony Briggs said: “Because it’s a somewhat unusual case, a psychiatric report might prove useful.”

Nicholas Rooke, for the defendant, said: “It makes sense if there’s also going to be a pre-sentence report, but it may take a few weeks to put it in train.”

Judge Briggs said: “The defendant will have to remain in custody in the meantime, not withstanding that he will want to know where he stands.”

The defendant will also be dealt with at the sentencing hearing for charges of using threatening, abusive or insulting words and behaviour, plus possession of a knife or sharply bladed object, in public, both of which he admitted at a previous hearing.

Judge Briggs adjourned all matters for sentence at the court on December 14.
