A SALON team worked 24 hours straight to boost a fundraising campaign started by an inspirational ‘brain-tumour blogger’ who lost her fight two years ago.

On the second anniversary of Anna Swabey’s death, sister Victoria Cartwright welcomed customers to Lox of Love, in Newton Aycliffe, from midday on Saturday until midday on Sunday.

Miss Swabey, of the town, gained national attention through her Inside My Head blog following a terminal brain tumour diagnosis at the age of 23.

She died aged 25 surrounded by family at 4.30am on September 16, 2016.

Mum-of-three Mrs Cartwright organised a 24-hour ‘blow out’ at her salon to coincide with the anniversary.

The 38-year-old said: “Anna would have absolutely loved it.

"Every single thing we were doing was things she genuinely loved to do and that was the whole point.

“She was a proper girly girl and the fact we were having a party at the same time would have been something she would have loved.

“It was nice to have that atmosphere and she would have been the first to say ‘you’re not supposed to mourn this day’.”

During Miss Swabey’s last 18 months she set out to raise £100,000 for the Brain Tumour Research Campaign.

On the day of her funeral the funding target was reached and in the aftermath of her death her family vowed to continue her legacy.

Since then funds have reached £131,000.

Now the total will be boosted by a further £2,700 raised at the 24-hour fundraiser.

Lox of Love owner Mrs Cartwright was one of a team of seven to give their time to provide more than 50 clients with the perfect blow-dry at the weekend.

“We had just over an hour where we didn’t have anybody in,” she added.

"Not only were we dragging people out of bed at 4am but they were also paying for the privilege.

"It was far better than we expected.”

Mrs Cartwright was helped by her husband who DJd the event with friends.

A raffle was also held and a bonus ball competition is yet to finish.

Miss Swabey’s mum Linda Swabey, father Keith Swabey and brother Matt Swabey all turned out during the event while Mrs Cartwright’s children were on hand to help.
