AN elderly woman was seriously injured as she was struck by a vehicle.
The 80-year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital after being hit by a grey Skoda Roomster SE Plus yesterday.
Police received a report of a collision involving the car and pensioner on Polwarth Crescent, in the Brunton Park area of Newcastle, at 3.24pm.
Officers said the Skoda collided with the woman and a stationary vehicle "for reasons yet to be established".
The driver of the Skoda was uninjured and the road was closed for more than four hours.
An investigation is ongoing and officers are now urging anyone who was in the area at the time, and saw or heard what happened, to get in touch.
Any passing vehicles, particularly those with dashcam footage, are also encouraged to come forward.
Anyone with information should contact police by calling 101, quoting reference 716 18/09/18, or by email the investigating officer at 2184@northumbria.pnn.police.uk
