Grass cutting

BEDALE town councillors have been told grass around the town’s new steel sculpture of a family of deer will be cut by contractors responsible for building the bypass. Members were told the contractors are responsible for cutting the grass for five years from the completion of the road, with two years still to run.

Battery fire

FIRE crews from Bedale and Masham crews were called to Little Crakehall to deal with an overcharged external battery on a caravan. The crews attended at 8.20pm on Sunday night and removed the battery using small tools. A thermal imaging camera was then used to ensure the caravan was no further fire risk.

Ashley talk

Music social

‘SONGS to Remember’, a fun afternoon of music and song for those living with dementia and their carers takes place at East Thirsk Community Hall this Thursday, September 20. A light lunch and refreshments are provided and it runs from noon to 2pm. Admission is £5.

Art exhibition

A SELECTION of works from this year’s Royal Academy Summer Exhibition curated by Norman Ackroyd is on display at the Zillah Bell Gallery, Thirsk, up until this Saturday.

County tourism

YORKSHIRE has been promoted as a tourist destination with four branded cars at the Vuelta a España cycle race. The BMW X3 cars were fully Yorkshire-branded with giant red Y’s attached to their roofs. They were seen by over 2.5 million roadside fans on their 2,033-mile trip around Spain and thousands of Yorkshire flags, bags and caps were handed out to spectators along the way.
