THE fastest tortoise in the world has fresh competition – from his new baby.

Sherbert, who is about three weeks old and is about the size of an egg, is settling in fast at his home at Adventure Valley, in Brasside, near Durham.

The youngster is already giving new parents Bertie and Shelley the run about and is proving to have some of dad’s speed.

The team at Adventure Valley, who will be unable to tell whether the leopard tortoise is male or female for another four years, say Sherbert is already up to speed with Bertie.

Twelve-year-old Bertie broke the Guinness World Record for speediest tortoise in 2014, when he sprinted his way down an 18ft course in just 19.59 seconds.

Adventure Valley visitors can meet the whole family in their VIP area.
