THE best of today's TV

Monkman & Seagull's Genius Guide to Britain (BBC2, 8pm)

TWO of University Challenge's most well-loved faces - and rivals - Eric Monkman and Bobby Seagull have been given their own show.

The brainboxes are travelling around the country in search of remarkable scientific and technological achievements, including the science of the deep-fried Mars bar and the world's smallest museum - which is located inside a phone booth. Their trip begins at Blackpool Pleasure Beach where they experience Sir Hiram Maxim's 1904 Captive Flying Machines, the oldest amusement ride in Europe. Next stop is Southport, home to the only lawnmower museum of its kind in the world. The pair then marvel at colossal broadcasting mast Emley Tower in Huddersfield, before contemplating life on other planets at the giant telescopes of the Jodrell Bank Observatory near Macclesfield.

Travel Man: 48 Hours in Ibiza (C4, 8.30pm)

RICHARD AYOADE is joined by writer and actor Jessica Knappett for his latest trip, touring the island in a silver Citroen 2CV, discovering there is more to Ibiza than foam parties, and visiting the Unesco world heritage site of Dalt Vila in the capital.

They also take in al fresco art at the island's version of Stonehenge, experience an exclusive supper club run by the global superstar chef Boris Buono and sample a selection of pricy cocktails, flowriding and a hippy gong bath.

Strangers (ITV, 9pm)

IT was obvious from last week's opening episode that ITV's new international thriller is an ambitious, big-budget affair.

There were even trailers for the eight-part series in the cinema prior to its premiere. In case you missed the opener, it follows British Professor Jonah Mulray (John Simm) whose life is turned upside down after his wife, Megan Harris, is killed in a car-crash in Hong Kong. Wracked with grief, Jonah travels to China and discovers that Megan led a secret life which seems to completely destroy everything they built together in London. Tonight, after hearing Megan's final heartbreaking phone message, Jonah tries to convince ex-cop David (Anthony Wong) that she was killed. But his search for proof uncovers further secrets that force him to question whether he ever truly knew his wife at all.

The Undateables (C4, 9pm)

COSTUME designer Rory from Coventry, who has Asperger's, is among those looking for love, hoping to meet a girl who will share his love of horror films, having never had a girlfriend or been on a date before.

South Londoner Roland, who has learning difficulties, has only had one previous relationship and is on the search for the right lady to bring him happiness, while animal lover Molly, who has Marfan syndrome, a genetic condition that causes tallness and overly-long limbs, is looking for her soulmate.

Black Earth Rising (BBC2, 9pm)

EVE'S case prosecuting Simon Nyamoya begins at the International Criminal Court, but a shocking incident changes everything.

To try to uncover the truth behind these events, Michael Ennis launches a new case and turns to Kate for help, as they defend Alice Munezero, a Rwandan government official and an old friend of Michael and Eve's. Alice stands accused of a historic war crime - the murder of a French priest in Rwanda in 1994. Thriller written and directed by Hugo Blick, starring Michaela Coel, Harriet Walter and John Goodman.

Super Salon (E4, 10pm)

FOR some of us, a trip to the salon is a chance to relax and be pampered - but for the people who work there, it seems the experience can be surprising dramatic.

This new series goes behind the scenes at one of the UK's biggest and wildest super salons to capture the blow dries and bust ups, as well as the infamous staff parties. In the first episode, co-owner Dan fears boss Cherise has splashed out a little too much on a new promotion, a staff suggestion box leads to frayed tempers and a client comes in for her first haircut in years.
