THIRSK-based charity Rural Arts is hosting a free event day for the over 60s to celebrate its project Art On Your Doorstep.

The scheme provides participatory arts activities for older people around Thirsk through art cafés, artist home visits and village hall art clubs.

A wide range of activities will be taking place on the celebration day on September 21, including ceramics, printmaking and iPad art workshops.

There will be relaxed music performances from MAIA the band, who will be playing popular music from the past, as well as running Bamboo Tamboo workshops.

Jenni Wren, of dance company Slanjayvah Danza, will perform a mix of flamenco, contemporary and Scottish dance and professor Emma Wood from Leeds Beckett University will discuss her research into the impact of participatory arts on wellbeing.

Meanwhile Kate Duncan from City Arts in Nottingham will be demonstrating the Armchair Gallery app, which allows virtual access to arts and cultural venues.

The event runs next Friday from 10am to 4pm at Rural Arts, The Courthouse, Westgate. Places can be booked at ruralarts.org or call 01845-526536.
