MIXED fortunes for a father and son racing-team duo saw one crash out just after the starting line and the other finish up on the podium.
Simon and Owen Walton, of Sedgefield, got behind the wheels of their Audi TTs in the seventh round of the Milltek Sport Volkswagen Racing Cup 2018 at Croft Circuit, near Darlington.
On Saturday Owen, 27, qualified in sixth position and came second in the first race on Sunday and eighth in the second race.
His father Simon said: “I was over the moon. I like to get on the podium myself but like to see him on it too.”
The 53-year-old, who races with his son as part of their team Swanflight, named after the family business, qualified in pole position on Saturday.
However, on Sunday Simon spun off the track on the first corner, on the first lap in the first race.
The vehicle was one of three or four to hit something on the wet track.
It struck another car causing about £15,000 of damage to the front end of the Audi TT - worth about £95,000.
Now the team are against the clock to repair the car in time for the cup final at Donnington Park, in Derby, on September 22 and 23
Owen is currently in fifth position in the cup, with father Simon in ninth place.
