A MAN suffered a fractured cheekbone when he was attacked from behind near a city centre park.
The 53-year-old victim was assaulted as he walked from Leazes Park, Newcastle, between 6pm and 6.30pm on Sunday.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "The victim had walked from Leazes Park, up Barrack Road and onto Brighton Grove where he is believed to have been attacked from behind by two men.
"The offenders then fled the area at which point he was taken to hospital with a suspected fractured cheek bone and a damaged eye socket.
"He was unable to describe his attackers and now detectives have launched an investigation to identify those responsible."
