Art talk

AN internationally known art historian will be the speaker at the September meeting of Tudhoe and Spennymoor Local History Society. Christopher Wright, who was a schoolfriend of the society’s chairman Tony Smith, will fly in from his home in Crete to deliver his talk Have you seen the Mona Lisa? on Monday, September 24. Mr Wright, who among other things did research under the tutelage of the infamous Anthony Blunt, has worked as a freelance consultant for many organisations including the Bowes Museum. The meeting is at 7.30pm in St David’s Church Hall, Tudhoe. Visitors and new members welcome.

Pact cancelled

POLICE in Newton Aycliffe had to cancel a PACT meeting due to be held at Greenfield Community Arts College last night, due to operational commitments. Anyone with concerns or questions can contact the Beat Team at Newton Aycliffe Police Station, by calling Durham police on 101.

New fence

Chilton Town Council has thanked gardeners for their support during the work to have new boundary fencing fitted its allotment site at Prospect Terrace. The project was made possible after the council secured funds from Durham County Council from payments received under section 106 planning agreements.

Dale walk

THE Crook and Weardale Ramblers will take a walk in Swaledale on Sunday. Walkers should meet the leader Dave Jackson at Surrender Bridge, near Reeth, at 10am for a choice of two routes. A 10 mile walk will take in Surrender Bridge, Reeth High Moor, Great Pinset, Barf End Gate and Blades while a shorter walk of 5.5 miles starting at Surrender Bridge will go by Fincher Gill, Level House Bridge and Gill.
