A YOUNGSTER in line to receive a prestigious Diana Award boosted his fundraising efforts at the Great North Run.

Jake Mendelsohn, 15, of Newton Aycliffe, completed the junior 5k in just over 20 minutes in Newcastle for the Brain Tumour Research Campaign (BTRC) and Alzheimer’s Society.

He was joined on Saturday by brother Isaac, ten, who finished the junior 4k in just over 27 minutes.

Their mother Ally Mendelsohn praised her sons' achievements, adding: “Although money is still coming it, it looks like they will have raised around £600 and they would like to thank everyone who has helped them achieve this.”

Jake is set to receive a Diana Award, which promotes the humanitarian and social action of young people, at Leeds College of Music on Friday, September 28.

The Woodham Academy pupil was selected for undertaking the Great North Swim two years ago to raise funds for BTRC - in honour of late family friend Anna Swabey.

Miss Swabey, who died aged 25 on September 16, 2016, launched a successful fund and awareness campaign following a terminal brain tumour diagnosis.
