ORGANISERS of a community project have been given a preview of a film they will release this autumn.

People behind the In the Pink project met in Evenwood to see the film which will have 12 public showings in the area, starting on September 27.

In the Pink – World War One Stories from the Gaunless Valley documents the lives of some of the 244 servicemen from the area who died in the Great War, as well as looking at several aspects of life on the home front.

The Evenwood, Ramshaw and District History Society secured Heritage Lottery funding for the project and commissioned Crackin Toast to bring their vast amount of research to life.

The film includes interviews with experts as well as diaries and letters which are read by the living descendants of the original writers.

Director, Rosie Anderson, said: “It has been a fascinating project, looking into the lives of these heroes.

“We have used archive film footage from the Imperial War Museum plus photographs from many private collections as well as music by local musicians. All narration is done by members of ERDHS so it is a true community project."

More information about the showings can be found on the Crackin Toast Facebook page.
