A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted child abduction following an incident in Consett last week.
During the incident, which took place on Medomsley Road at around 5pm on Friday, August 31, a man driving an Audi car approached a 13-year-old girl and invited her to get into his car.
The girl fled the scene and alerted her family.
Durham police has confirmed that a local man, in his early 20s, has been arrested and questioned by police.
He has since been released on bail and inquiries are continuing.
A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: “We are aware that there has been a great deal of speculation on social media regarding this incident.
“We would ask that any person with relevant information contacts us on 101, quoting incident number 506 of August 31.”
