A CARE home's staff have been praised for their actions after a visitor had a stroke.

Lillian Spence visits her husband, Mark Spence, daily at HC-One’s Lothian House, in Spennymoor.

However, on her last visit, the team noticed that she appeared unsteady and looked very unwell.

On further examination, it became apparent Mrs Spence was having a stroke and thanks to the team's quick actions, paramedics were at the home and treating her within 16 minutes.

Mrs Spence has now returned home and is living independently with some home care support.

Jackie Spence, her daughter, said: “[It is] absolutely brilliant, I couldn’t recommend the home enough. The staff are always professional and very friendly and approachable. My mam, who I thought a few weeks back wouldn’t be here, has recovered marvellously down to the care and attention she received from the home.”

Jill Carr, Lothian House’s Home Manager added: “I am so proud of the team and the actions that they took that day. It was lovely to see Mrs Spence return to visit her husband, her smile said it all.”
