A CHILDREN’S care scheme that was under consultation is set to continue and improve at Ripon Leisure Centre.

A public consultation into Harry’s Place Childcare - formerly Harry’s Place Crèche - found that the majority of respondents were in favour of maintaining the provision.

And the decision has now been made to carry on the offer of care for children aged between 12 weeks and five-years-old at the centre on Dallamires Lane.

Improvements include inviting parents or carers to leave their child with the service; parents or carers do not need to take part in an activity at Ripon Leisure Centre to use the childcare and opening times have changed to capture more users attending classes in the gym and Ripon Spa Baths.

Councillor Stanley Lumley, Harrogate Borough Council cabinet member with responsibility for culture, tourism and sport, said: “I am delighted that the decision has been made to expand the scope of Harry’s Place Childcare at Ripon Leisure Centre as we gauge people’s desire to support our provision.

“This facility will not only allow our members to enjoy the gym or classes knowing their little ones are in safe hands, but we also encourage residents to book sessions for their child so they can attend personal appointments- like going to the dentist or doctors- or shop in the centre without having to remain on site.”

Cllr Lumley added that the council was committed to helping customers get the most out of its leisure facilities.

The two-hour sessions cost £6.30 and are contract-free. They start on September 3 and pre-booking is advisable.
