MEN in balaclavas broke into a house and threatened the occupants before making off with cash and jewellery.
Thieves broke into the home in Birtley, near Chester-le-Street at about 9.15pm on Sunday, August 20.
No-one at the property was injured but police say they were left incredibly shaken by the incident.
Two men, wearing black balaclavas, dark jackets, dark and grey bottoms, forced their way into the house in Tantallon.
The men threatened the occupants of the property before making off with £300 in cash and some jewellery.
Enquiries to identify those involved are ongoing but now police are appealing for help from the public to identify those involved.
Anyone who saw the men in the area last Sunday evening, or has information about the burglary, is encouraged to contact police.
