MEMBERS of the public helped rescue a woman after her car crashed into a canal.
North Yorkshire Police, ambulance and fire crews all responded to reports that the car had entered the water off Boroughbridge Road, Ripon, on Saturday night.
A spokesman for the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to the scene by police at 10.20pm and they sent two fire engines and two specialist water rescue units.

However, the teams were not required as upon arrival the female driver of the vehicle had already been helped from the car by members of the public.
The spokesman said the water was three to four foot deep where the car had entered the canal.
The woman was left in the care of the ambulance service and it is not believed that she was seriously injured in the incident.
A section of the road was cordoned off for several hours into the night to enable a safe recovery operation.
Witnesses took to social media to comment on the incident, with one onlooker saying that the area was “swarming” with emergency services vehicles.
Others praised the members of the public who had entered the canal and helped the woman out of the water after the crash.
