A PROLIFIC offender has begun a prison sentence after being found guilty of several offences.
Michael Claydon, of Dent Street, in Shildon, was sentenced at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court yesterday, August 23.
The 26-year-old was found guilty of several offences.
These included two thefts from shops and theft from a motor vehicle.
He was also found guilty of fraud by false representation, handling stolen goods and criminal damage.
Claydon was sentenced to a total of 26 weeks in prison following the hearing.
Speaking after the case, PCSO James Cleminson, of Shildon neighbourhood team, said the news had come as a "relief" to both his victims and the wider community as Claydon has brought "unrest" to residents around him.
He said: “We hope this sentence brings a degree of relief to the community and particularly his victims.
"He has caused unrest to local residents and we are pleased that he will be off our streets for six months.
"We hope it will provide the public with reassurance and make our town safer.”
