PLANS to convert four barns in a Teesdale village have been submitted to Durham County Council.

John Westgarth and his wife, of G H Farms Ltd, have made the application for the barns at Hollin Hall East, in Gainford.

Submitting the plans in July, the couple have applied to convert the four barns into accommodation as well as extend the existing farmhouse.

The barns would be made into a mix of three and four-bedroom homes while the farmhouse would also have three bedrooms.

Three new detached garage blocks would also be built while hard and soft landscaping and a new access road onto Ford Dike Lane created for the 70-acre site.

A total of 20 car parking spaces, including five disabled ones, will also be created if the plans are approved.

In a design and access statement written on behalf of the couple, senior building designer, Chris Humble, of H C Designs, said: "Care has been taken within the design of the conversion of the existing buildings to maintain their architectural merit and form. Subtle additions to replace parts of some structures that have previously been inappropriately altered have been included within the scheme design."
