Ward election

HAMBLETON District Council is holding a by election in October to fill the vacancy in its Thirsk ward. The election will be held on October 4 if contested. Nominations can be accepted until 4pm on September 7. Nomination packs are available from the electoral services section at the Civic Centre, Stone Cross, Northallerton on 01609-767227.

Abba tribute

TRIBUTE act ABBA Sensation are performing an open air concert at Thorp Perrow in Bedale on Saturday, August 25. Audience members can take along a picnic and a chair and gates open at 7.30pm.

Football fun

Cows rescued

A FIRE crew helped a farmer rescue two cows that got stuck in mud in Danby in the North York Moors. The crew used strops and small tools to assist the farmer who was using heavy machinery to rescue the animals. The cows were released unharmed at around 8pm on Monday night.

Camera club

NORTHALLERTON Camera Club is staging its annual exhibition at the town’s library until September 1. The display includes the winning prints from last season’s annual competition with some photographs for sale. The club’s new season begins on September 3 at Brompton Methodist church hall.

Poetry show

PERFORMANCE poet Kate Fox, whose solo comedy shows have toured the UK and been broadcast on Radio 4, will be at The Globe library in Stokesley on Friday, September 7 at 7pm. Tickets are £6.
