THE family of the victim of a sex offender have spoken out about the effect the woman’s unwanted advances have had on their lives.

Thirty-six-year-old Mandy Stubbs spent months denying three offences of sexual activity with a child until her final appearance in court when she admitted having full sex with the teenager. She was jailed for four years and eight months.

The boy’s uncle said the family was relieved that the suffering was finally over. He said: “It’s like a cloud is starting to lift after more than 11 months.

“Obviously it was a big relief to us and for him when we heard she had finally admitted what she had done. He felt like no one believed him and we thought he would eventually have to go to court to give evidence.

“This has been hanging over his head until she found sense and pleaded guilty.

“I said all along the truth will come out, and, thankfully, it has.

“After this happened he became quite reclusive and didn’t want to go out in public in case he bumped into people who knew that there was a court case. He was worried what people might think of him. For months and months this has been part of our lives.

“It’s been a struggle, but at least he can now get back to his normal life and try to put this behind him. We will also try to get our lives back to normal.”

Sentencing Stubbs at Durham Crown Court, the judge, Jonathan Carroll, referred to the emotional trauma suffered by the boy and told Stubbs: “The fact is, he is a young child as seen by how he reacted to this. He wanted a cuddle from his mum, because you are dealing with an emotionally immature young boy, nowhere near ready to explore his first sexual experience, and, certainly not in the manner you inflicted on him.”

The boy’s tearful mother said: “We’ve been through so much because of her.”

Judge Carroll told Stubbs that in her “dreadfully drunk” condition she “inflicted sexual contact” on the boy, “to satisfy your own sexual desires, with a complete disregard for his needs”.

The court heard that Stubbs began by kissing the youngster on the neck and cheek and he tried to stop her advances. She then laid on top of him and undid his trousers, before performing a sex act on him.

Durham Crown Court was also told that she removed her leggings before full sex followed.

When the incident was reported to police and Stubbs was questioned, she claimed that the boy “came on to her” and that she was the “victim” of rape.

Stubbs, who was jailed, was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and is subject to restrictions over future contact with underage boys, under the terms of an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
