A ROTARY club is postponing an event which was due to raise cash for four local hospices after a clash of plans by the participants.

The Rotary Club of Stokesley said it would announce an alternative date for it Rotary on Tees Challenge, which would see canoeists, kayakers and paddleboarders make their way down an eight mile section of the River Tees.

The event would raise cash for the Teesside, Butterwick, Herriott Homecare and Zoe's Place Hospices.

The event was due to take place on Sunday, August 26, however after receiving local and international feedback requesting an alternative date, the club has postponed the paddle challenge.

With interest from individuals and clubs from around the region and as far as Belgium, the club now intends to hold the event in spring 2019.

Ken Braithwaite, events committee chairman, said: "With the aim of generating the optimum support and sponsorship opportunities, we decided to postpone."

  • The club meets at the Blacksmith Arms, Swainby, near Stokesley, on Tuesdays at 7pm. Contact the club secretary on 01642-711920.
