A TEAM of colleagues from a leading Thirsk business raised almost £10,000 for Macmillan after conquering the Three Peaks Challenge.

The 14-strong team from Langver Engineering raised £9,829 by completing the challenge which involves scaling Britain’s three highest peaks; Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon within 30-hours.

They were inspired to take on the challenge by human resources and administration manager Kath Roberts who recently experienced the benefits of Macmillan care after a family member became ill

Ms Roberts said: “One in two of us will be touched by cancer in our lives and we sometimes overlook the incredible work of the charities that support patients and their families.

“There is a cost involved in this care and Macmillan is completely self-funded.

“After seeing first-hand the support they provide for countless families, I started thinking about what I could do to help.”

Most of the group were novice walkers and they set about a gruelling training schedule which included one of the team training from his holiday in Lanzarote.

Rebecca Shanks, Macmillan fundraising manager for North Yorkshire, said: “When established organisations like Langver Engineering get involved in challenges such as this, it not only raises valuable funds and but also awareness for the charity, and hopefully inspire others to do the same.”

Langver is the UK’s leading manufacturer of ratchet tensioners for curtain-sided trucks and Ms Shanks thanked their customers for supporting the challenge.

She said: “We never thought we would raise so much money and we are thankful to everyone who donated and those that helped us achieve this, including Sherwood Minibuses who provided vehicles and drivers to take us between the peaks and Race Faster who gave us nutritional support to help us perform more effectively.”
