A TOUGH 10k multi-terrain run is being held in the Stanley area next month.

Derwentside Athletics Club’s Hellhole Race is being held on Sunday, September 30, at 10am.

The event is being staged in memory of Gerard Murray, known to many as Pedro, who died last year.

Race organiser John Donneky said: “Pedro did a lot of his running around the Derwentside area and enjoyed participating in this race.

“A very popular character and dedicated competitor, Pedro was a very well-liked and respected individual who was well known for the support and encouragement he gave to others.

“The proceeds of this year’s race will be split equally between Pancreatic Cancer Research and to developing junior athletics in Stanley.”

The race combines sections of the Coast To Coast cycle route and Hellhole Wood

Registration, changing, showers and refreshments will be at the Louisa Centre in Stanley. The entry desk will be open from 8.30am

The 10k race and a fun run will be held on the fields near to Oakey Park, with

marshals providing directions from the Louisa Centre to the start.

All finishers will receive a t-shirt and goody bag with prize vouchers in all categories plus men’s and ladies’ team prizes.

The race presentation will be held at the Louisa Centre from around 12pm.

The entry fee is £14 affiliated, £16 unaffiliated, in advance, £2 cheaper than on the day. The fun run entry is £5. The closing date for entries is September 21.
