Field fire

FIREFIGHTERS were needed to put out a blaze in a field in Catterick Garrison. Crews from Colburn and Richmond were called to field off Catterick Road at 6.15pm on Thursday evening. The fire stretched to the field’s hedge line and covered two areas of cut crop measuring 100m by 30m and 80m by 20m. The firefighters used two hose reel jets and beaters to extinguish the flames.

Cream teas

KNAYTON Village Hall Committee will be serving Sunday brunch and cream teas at Knayton Village Hall on Sunday, August 12. Brunch will be served from 10am to 1pm and cream teas will be available between 2.30pm and 5.30pm.

Bar plan

MALTON’S old town hall - which has stood empty for more than six years - is set to be transformed into an upmarket bar and restaurant by the end of the year. Stew and Oyster Ltd, which operates four bars in the Leeds area, said the recruitment process for management staff had begun and they would be looking for general staff nearer the opening.

Salon raid

CASH was stolen from a Malton hair salon during a break-in which left the door smashed in two and glass strewn across the floor. The damage and theft happened at Anna Green’s hair and beauty salon on Castlegate.
