A SERIAL plant pincher is being sought in connection with a number of thefts from gardens in a village.

The green-fingered thief has stolen everything from a cast iron bench and solar lights, to hanging baskets and a rabbit ornament from gardens in the Maple Gardens and Maple Grove areas of South Moor, Stanley.

A total of nine thefts from gardens have been reported to police in the area between August 5 and August 7.

Acting Sergeant Gary Smith, from Stanley Neighbourhood Police Team, said: “You’ve heard of light-fingered thieves, but here in South Moor it appears we have a green-fingered thief.

“It looks as if whoever is responsible has stolen themselves a brand new garden. Some of these items are quite large and distinctive, so it is possible that someone has seen the culprit carrying the items in the area.”

“Anyone who has seen anything, or knows of anyone that has suddenly acquired a brand new garden, should contact us.”

Officers believe the man responsible for the thefts was seen without a top on in the area between 11pm and 3.30am on August 6 and 7.

The items stolen are an iron garden table, hanging baskets, four plant pots containing flowers, a cast iron bench, two garden chairs, two hanging baskets, three empty plant pots, flower pots, watering can, solar lights and a rabbit ornament.
