CHILDREN from east Durham have been showing off their brass skills at the Great Exhibition of the North.
Children from Hesleden and Seaham’s Westlea primary schools took part in a performance by the newly formed East Durham First Brass Band at Sage Gateshead, during a gala day to celebrate the musical talents of young people from the region.
They were representing the Durham and Darlington Music Education Hub, which is led by Durham County Council’s Durham Music Service, alongside the award winning Durham County Youth Big Band.
Debbie Hughes, headteacher at Westlea, said: “Westlea School is thrilled that our pupils have been given the opportunity to share their talents at this wonderful venue.”
Dawn Dunn, headteacher at Hesleden, added: “Our children had a fantastic time and really enjoyed taking part in the Sage Gala Day.”
