HUNDREDS of people attended a park’s first community fun day to celebrate the opening of a new play area for children.

The event was organised by the Friends of Addison Park (FOAP), in Meadowfield, near Durham.

The park has a new infant play area and outdoor table tennis tables.

More than 500 people attended the fun day on Saturday to have a go on the new equipment, watch demonstrations by Brandon Boxing Club and Brandon and Byshottles table tennis club and play games organised by Brandon Carrside Youth Community Project.

Volunteers from Brandon and Meadowfield Resident group, St. John’s Hall and Friends of Addison Park volunteered to provide refreshments, including a free hog roast and ice creams from Valwins Of Durham.

Kirsty Gray, secretary of the FOAP, thanked local Councillors Paul Taylor and John Turnbull, for their help.

She added that the day would not have been possible without generous donations from Brandon and Byshottles Parish Council, Mid Durham AAP and Avant Homes.
