A TRADITIONAL village carnival enjoyed a record number of floats which took to the streets for its annual procession at the weekend.
Middleton-in-Teesdale Carnival was held on Saturday when hundreds turned out to watch the colourful parade before converging on the school field for more fun.
Eileen Dent, carnival committee chairman, said she was overwhelmed by the support from the community and the success of the event.
“It was an amazing day,” she added. “We had nine floats which is more than I’ve known there to be and the work that goes into them is unbelievable.”
This year the prize money was bumped up to £100 for first place in the parade.
The winners were the caveman-themed family and friends of gamekeepers John and Sue Pinkney.
In second place was the Mitchell family with a float inspired by The Greatest Showman and in third place a World Cup float by the Wallace family.
Lexi Collinson won the under five category.
