Officers were called to an industrial plant at Prospect Row, on Sunderland Docks, at about 9.50am on Friday, July 27, following a report of a fatality after an incident.

The man who died can now be identified as Brendan Eccles, 61, from the Billingham area.

Police said his family have been informed and are being supported.

Enquiries to establish the circumstances of the incident are ongoing with police working in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive.

A coroner’s inquest will be opened in due course.

A family statement read: “We are absolutely devastated by what has happened.

“Brendan was a loving husband, father and grandfather and we are still coming to terms with this tragic loss.
