POLICE in Darlington are appealing to the public to help stop off-road bikes causing a nuisance in the town.

Over the years there have been a number of incidents involving off-road bikes and quads, with a rise in complaints being made to police in recent months.

The calls are often from members of the public reporting people illegally using off-road bikes at a particular location. However, the majority of the time the bikes have gone by the time officers arrive.

As a result, residents are being urged to share intelligence to help police trace the owners of off-road bikes, who is using them and where they are being stored.

People are also being urged to send any dash cam or mobile phone footage they may have of people illegally using off-road bikes to police.

“To tackle the issues around off-road motorcycles, we need help from the community to gather intelligence,” said PC Hamish Leslie, from Darlington Neighbourhood Police Team.

“We need to know who is using these bikes, where they are storing them and who their pillion passengers are. By using these tactics in the past, we have had considerable success in identifying the riders and seizing the bikes.”
