COUNTY's Durham's first support group for people affected by lymphoma has been set up.

The meetings will take place in Chester-le-Street and are aimed at any one affected by the cancer.

Karen Bonell, regional development manager for Lymphoma Action, said: “As well as meeting others with similar experiences, we will have invited speakers and information.

“The support group has the full support of the clinical nurse specialists from the haematology departments and they will often be in attendance. Come along, we can guarantee a very warm welcome.”

Lymphoma is the fifth most common cancer in the UK and affects around 125,000 people.

The meetings will take place on the third Wednesday of alternate months at the Chester-le-Street Parish Centre, Church Chare, from 11am to 12.30pm. The first meeting will be on Wednesday, August 15.
