VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help support the families and children of prisoners on Teesside.
The charity Nepacs is holding an open day at HMP Holme House visitors’ centre, in Stockton, on Monday August 13 from 1pm to 4pm.
Those that attend will hear about different volunteering opportunities available and be able to chat to existing volunteers.
Nepacs has volunteers working in seven prisons across the North-East and some courts, but says it needs more to provide the best support possible.
Emma Price, Nepacs volunteer coordinator, said: “The impact of imprisonment on children and families can be devastating and visiting court or prison for the first time can be quite difficult and sometimes distressing.
“Our volunteers offer a warm welcome and someone to chat to, which is particularly important for people who may be going into the unknown.”
To book a place at the open day e-mail eprice@nepacs.co.uk or telephone (0191) 375 7278.
