A CHEF who worked for famously foul-mouthed TV chef Gordon Ramsay is celebrating a successful first year in business alongside his wife.

Paul Bussey decided to take on the King's Arms village pub in Great Stainton, near Sadberge, with his wife Ycheng in August 2017 by giving the site an extensive refurbishment after a lengthy closure.

Mr Bussey was just 18 when he left the North-East for London to work at The Connaught under the guidance of Angela Hartnett, a protégée of Mr Ramsay.

Later he worked for Mark Broadbent, who won accolades during a stint on The Great British Menu. He then gained experience as a sous-chef in Mr Ramsay’s Hilton Dubai restaurant.

Father-of-two Mr Bussey now employs 15 members of staff, with Mrs Bussey managing front-of-house.

He said: “It’s difficult for restaurants to make a profit in their first year, but we’re delighted with how it has gone.

“We get all our meat from local suppliers – we have a farmers’ night every Thursday – and we get our fish from Hartlepool.

“So we’re trying to use as much local supplies as we possibly can.”
