FOUR sets of Darlington roadworks are due to begin next week, affecting McMullen Road, Carmel Road South, Faverdale and Hurworth.

Northern Gas Networks will divert a gas main on McMullen Road, closing the road from its Haughton Road junction to Red Barnes Way, opposite Red Hall, for a month.

The works will begin on Monday, July 23, with diversions via Haughton Road and the A66.

As part of housing developments at Blackwell, sewer and water connections will see deep excavations made in Carmel Road South.

Temporary 24-hour traffic lights will be set up for between four and six weeks from Monday, July 23.

Hurworth's Strait Lane will be shut for resurfacing from Sunday, July 22, to Tuesday, July 24, closing sections one at time from its Emerson Road junction and Sanderson Road junction.

Between Monday, July 23, and Friday, July 27, Faverdale North will be closed to through traffic from its junction with Faverdale to the junction with Faverdale West for maintenance. Access for businesses will be via Rotary Way only.
