A FIRE broke out in more than 8,000 square metres on Sunday.
The fire brigade deployed six appliances to tackle the blaze, just off the A691 road in between Durham and Lanchester.
A spokesperson last night said: "Crews are currently battling 8,000 square metres of woodland. Two senior officers are also in attendance."
On Monday, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Dominic Brown, of County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, tweeted: "Crews are still at this incident working hard to extinguish all hot spots to prevent further spread."
