IT’S something to shout about – the biggest town crier competition to be held in Yorkshire for decades is to be held later this month.
The Helmsley Invitational National Town Criers Competition for The Magna Carta Trophy is being held on July 21.
The town’s own town crier, award-winning David Hinde, will host the event along with the Helmsley in Business group.
And others will be travelling from far and wide – including Bermuda and Nova Scotia to compete at the competition at Helmsley Walled Garden.
Twenty have entered in total, representing towns in Devon, Herefordshire, Somerset, Surrey, Kent, West Midlands, Lincolnshire, Lancashire and Staffordshire.
More local criers include those from Scarborough, Filey, Darlington, Knaresborough, Malton and Norton.
The action gets underway at 11am and will continue through the afternoon and include a parade, in full regalia, at 2pm.
The trophies will be presented between 4pm and 4.30pm.
