SURVIVOR stories from the worst atrocity committed on European soil since the Second World War feature in an exhibition to mark its 23rd anniversary.
Remembering Srebrenica, at Durham’s Clayport Library, highlights the horrors of the 1995 genocide, which saw thousands of Bosnian Muslims killed, displaced and sexually abused as part of a widespread ethnic cleansing campaign.
It also celebrates the extraordinary acts of courage displayed by those who lived through the Bosnian conflict.
Cllr Simon Henig, Leader of Durham County Council, said: “This builds on the work we have previously carried out for Holocaust Memorial Day in January where we widened our focus to include post Second World War genocides including Bosnia.
“We need to continually challenge all forms of hatred and shine a light on the importance of strong cohesive communities where hatred in all its guises is challenged.”
Remembering Srebrenica runs at Clayport Library until Saturday.
