TWO council wardens were injured when their van windows were smashed during a disturbance.

Both street wardens suffered minor cuts when the window of their vehicle was smashed in Craghead, near Stanley.

Police were called to the Millennium Green area of the village on Friday, June 15, at around 8.15pm amid reports that up to 100 teenagers were drinking and causing a disturbance.

The group of youths dispersed when police arrived, but the window of a council van parked on Millennium Green was damaged and the two occupants were showered with glass.

Police have now questioned a 17-year-old youth, from Stanley, in connection with the incident and the investigation continues.

PC Liam Norris said: “Both of the wardens who were injured in this incident were ordinary people trying to go about their job making our community a better place to live and this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.

“We would like to appeal for anyone who saw what happened or has any information to come forward and let us know.”
