CHILDREN are being offered the chance to take part in a holiday club with a difference next month.

That's as Bright Woods Forest School CIC prepares to hold its first holiday club at Deepdale Nature Reserve, in Startforth, near Barnard Castle.

The club is available for children aged eight to 11 and will run from 9am to 3pm on August 23 and 24.

On the first day, children will play a Wildcraft Adventure game based on the popular video game Minecraft. Players will be collecting experience points for completing a number of challenges throughout the day such as building dens before 'night' falls when the monster wakes up, using fire steel and a variety of tools.

Meanwhile on the second day, participants will be able to put their survival skills to the test in a day packed with a lot of adventurous activities such as foraging for food, lighting fires and cooking their own lunch on a campfire. They will also learn how to purify water, make their own tools.

“There will be plenty of time for the children to follow their own interests and by having only a small group, we will be able to ensure their safety and offer greater opportunity for one to one support.” said Gemma McColl, the company’s director and practitioner.

The club will take place outdoors but in case of severe weather forecast such as strong winds, it will be relocated to a nearby venue but the company reserves the right to change the activity.

The price for an individual day is £30 or an offer of £50 is available if booking for both days.
