DETECTIVES are appealing for information following the theft of a Land Rover.

The red and white Defender, which was stolen overnight on Monday, June 25 from Weardale, was recovered by police in St Helen Auckland on Sunday, July 8.

Officers suspect the vehicle had been used by criminals in other areas of County Durham, including Consett.

Detective Constable Phil Collingwood, from South Durham CID, said: “Theft of these working vehicles causes a lot of inconvenience for the victims.

“I am determined to find those responsible and hope that people will recognise this distinctive red and white vehicle.

“Any information as to where the vehicle has been and what it’s been used for may help. I know people from our rural communities will be keen to help.”
